The Work on Water Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) outlines the main hazards and risks associated with work carried out on watercraft such as workboats, barges, punts, dredges, etc., and on structures such as pontoons which float on water, including risks of falls, immersion and drowning, but excludes the actual work processes being carried out.
The SWMS provides details of the safety precautions (including protective clothing and equipment) necessary for safe work on water.
